THE ROERO
The Roero area is located between the hills of the Langhe and the Monferrato, between the towns of Alba and Asti. It is known as “the land of the middle” because it differs from the others for its peculiar and distinctive morphological features. It is a land made of steep, dark gullies, wide woodlands, which blend and alternate with the elegant geometric lines of vineyards, peach orchards and hazelnut groves.
This area is famous for its castles that stand out one close to the others as marvellous view on the top of the Roero hills. Some date back to the Middle Ages such as the castles of Cisterna, Santa Vittoria d’Alba, Baldissero, Monteu Roero, Monticello and Castellinaldo. Some others are red brick towers such as those of Montaldo Roero, Santo Stefano Roero and Corneliano. There are also beautiful baroque buildings such as the castles of Guarene, Magliano Alfieri and the Royal Castle of Govone.
